Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for March 19, 1908: “A local convention by the history teachers in Kansas is opening today and is due to bring a number of top people in the field to Lawrence. : The greenness in the city water, noticeable for the past 10 days or so is due to algae, a vegetable growth in standing water, and is the same thing botanically as the green scum that covers frog ponds late in the summer. Professors at the university say it is not harmful even though it tastes bad and tends to bother equipment.”
