Austin, Texas Nick Czyz pitched 51â3 strong innings, but didn't get enough run support as Kansas University's baseball team fell, 6-1, to Texas on Saturday.
Czyz allowed five hits and a pair of runs. The 6-foot-2 lefty walked one and struck out three, giving up his runs on an RBI double and a sacrifice fly in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.
KU senior Ryne Price went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
The Jayhawks took the early lead when Price led off the second inning with a double and advanced to third on a sharp single by Erik Morrison. Senior Joe Southers capped the rally with an RBI single to left field, driving in the Jayhawks' only run of the game.
The Longhorns' pitching staff, however, allowed just two more singles through the final seven innings.
Texas improved to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play, while the Jayhawks dropped to 10-8 and 0-2.
The Jayhawks will look to salvage the final game of the series at 1:05 p.m. today at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
