4-H and FCE news

Lone Star 4-H Club met Jan. 14 at Lone Star Church of the Brethren. Christine Caffey, president, called the meeting to order. Rowan Plinsky, Bethany Ledom and Megan Williams lead the group in a song. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite gum.

Under new business, 4-H Sunday was discussed. The club set a tentative date of April 6. It will be at the Lone Star Church of the Brethren.

Rowan Plinsky gave a demonstration and Grant Metsker gave a brief talk on parliamentary procedure.

Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club met Jan. 14 in Building 1 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

The program consisted of a parliamentary report on roll call procedure. The club received thank-you cards from their Adopt-a-Family and Angel Tree projects.

Vinland Family and Community Education will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesdayat the home of Mariann Bradley. The lesson, “Healthy Choices When Eating Out,” will be given by Freida Martin. Roll call will be answered by, “Where do you like to eat out?”

Douglas County FCE met March 3 in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Genny Hunsinger, secretary, read a letter from Willmeyer FCE Unit in regards to its dissolution as a FCE Unit.

Judy Wulfkuhle, president, announced the Northeast area meeting will be April 2 in Manhattan. Council officers and program committee members will attend. District recognition will be May 8 in Wyandotte County.

Susan Krumm, extension agent in family and consumer sciences with K-State Research and Extension-Douglas County, announced the following events: Walk Kansas, March 9-May 3; Master Food Volunteer Program, Tuesdays and Thursdays June 3-26; and the Baldwin Community Wellness Festival, April 15.

Darlene Bright announced that there would be a blood drive on April 10 at First Christian Church.

Margret Fuston reported the Spring Tea will be April 18 in Building 21 at the fairgrounds. Fuston handed out books on keeping children safe on the Internet. The next FCE council meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. April 7 at Deal Six Auditorium.
