Buffs put BU on bubble

A&M, OSU advance

Colorado guard Richard Roby (23) dunks against Baylor. Twelfth-seeded Colorado stunned fifth-seeded Baylor in double overtime Thursday in Kansas City, Mo.

Big 12 tournament

? Baylor was hoping for at least one more victory, a little padding to make sure of its first NCAA Tournament berth in 20 years.

Colorado put a big dent in those plans, likely giving the Bears some anxious moments when the NCAA field is announced on Sunday.

Richard Roby and Marcus Hall scored all 17 of Colorado’s points in the second overtime, and the Buffaloes hurt Baylor’s NCAA Tournament hopes with a surprising 91-84 victory Thursday in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.

“We’ll have to see what they say now,” Baylor coach Scott Drew said. “I know one thing: When you’re winning you don’t have to worry as much. All year long we haven’t had a so-called bad loss, but in a conference tournament a five seed shouldn’t lose to a 12.”

Roby finished with 32 points and 12 rebounds, and Hall had 25 points and 10 assists despite missing potential game-winners at the end of regulation and the first overtime.

Texas A&M 60, Iowa St. 47

Kansas City, Mo. – Donald Sloan and Dominique Kirk had 12 points each, and Texas A&M held Iowa State to 27 percent shooting.

It was an ugly, physical game, with lots of pushing and shoving under the basket and plenty of missed shots. Texas A&M, the sixth seed, smothered Iowa State defensively and did just enough on offense to hang on.

The Aggies move on to face third-seeded Kansas State in the quarterfinals today.

Oklahoma State 76, Texas Tech 72

Kansas City, Mo. – James Anderson scored 18 points and hit the game-clinching free throws with four seconds to go.

Texas Tech led by as many as five points in the second half, but missed three of four foul shots with about three minutes to go and could not stop Oklahoma State point guard Byron Eaton down the stretch.
