Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 13, 1908: “Charles Longfellow, a cousin of the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, is very ill at the home of his daughter 11 miles southeast of Lawrence. He was born in Maine and came to Kansas in 1855. He has been quite active in the territory ever since. : J.S. Bristow of Salina, proprietor of the Salina Journal and candidate for the U.S. Senate, spoke in KU chapel this morning on ‘The Marvelous Age in Which We Live.’ He is highly optimistic about America’s future and his talk was well-received.”
