Royals trim spring roster

? Outfielder Chris Lubanski, the fifth player selected in the 2003 draft, and first baseman Mike Stodolka, the fourth player chosen in the 2000 draft, were assigned to Kansas City’s minor-league camp Sunday as the Royals made 10 roster moves.

The Royals also optioned right-handed pitcher Julio Pimentel to Class AA Northwest Arkansas. Pimentel, who was 12-4 with a 2.65 earned-run average last season with Class A Wilmington, Del., was the only one of the 10 on the 40-man major league roster.

Others assigned to the minor-league camp were right-handers Matt Wright, Roberto Giron, Matt Peterson and Ben Hendrickson, left-hander John Foster and catchers Adam Donachie and Damaso Espino.

Stodolka was drafted as a left-handed pitcher, but was moved to first base in 2005 after having elbow surgery in 2004.

The Royals have 50 players remaining in camp.

“We need to get them down getting their at-bats and innings,” Royals manager Trey Hillman said.
