Highland Park cruises in 5A boys final

? Rico Richardson scored 29 points, including seven three-pointers, as Topeka Highland Park pounded Wichita Carroll, 64-39, to win the Class 5A boys state basketball championship Saturday.

The victory gave Highland Park its second straight state title in its third straight championship-game appearance.

4A boys: Topeka Hayden 57, Girard 48

Salina – Steve Feighny scored 16 points, and Jeff Reid added 15 for Topeka Hayden.

3A boys: Trinity Academy 55, Nemaha Valley 39

Hutcinson – Cole Graddy scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Trinity Academy.

2A boys: St. Marys-Colgan 53, St. John 48

Manhattan – St. Marys dominated the first half, but the Panthers had to hold off St. John in the second half.

1A boys: Montezuma-South Gray 49, Hanover 42

Hays – Montezuma-South Gray won its second straight title.

5A girls: McPherson 61, Wichita Carroll 53

Topeka – Senior Jordi James and junior Kelsie Sorenson combined for 43 points and 23 rebounds as McPherson won its fifth title.

4A girls: Andover Central 41, Holton 39, OT

Salina – Bailey Gee scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Andover Central overcame a 10-point deficit.

3A girls: Riley County 46, Cimmarron 30

Hutchinson – Riley County wrapped up its second unbeaten season in four years.

Riley also went unbeaten in 2005.

2A girls: Berean Academy 42, St. John 41 (OT)

Manhattan – Berean Academy had to rally in overtime.

St. John scored 10 straight points to tie the game at 32 at the end of regulation.

1A girls: Montezuma-South Gray 61, Weskan 47

Hays – The Montezuma-South Gray girls won their first state title in their first appearance.

South Gray was trailing 42-28 in the third quarter but went on a 33-5 run.
