2008 Academic All-Star: Stephanie Drahozal

School: Lawrence High School; Grade-point average: 4.0; Class rank: 1; Parents: Christopher and Kaye Drahozal, Lawrence

Among all of her earned accolades, Lawrence High School senior Stephanie Drahozal pinpoints theater among her most important accomplishments.

The first is a school production of “Hello Dolly” her junior year that went “really well,” and the second is her current effort to co-direct a student-produced play at LHS this spring.

She names these accomplishments and overlooks her perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

“Working with other people is something that’s really important to me, and I think the best accomplishment and the best things people do in life are with other people in the community. So that’s pretty important to me,” she said.

Drahozal appreciates the teamwork and leadership skills she has learned in her arts classes and activities.

“Those transfer over into the other classes, and so I think it’s a really, really important part of education,” she said.

The drama and choir activities she’s active in have helped her become more comfortable in social settings.

“I’m still a fairly quiet person, but theater has really let me explore other persons and just helped me put myself out there,” Drahozal said.

Her success also is a product of her time management and work ethic. But she credits her teachers, classmates and parents, Kaye and Christopher Drahozal, who have taught her organization skills.

She’s still undecided on her college for next year and a career choice, although she’s leaning toward a double-major in history and theater.

“I’m hoping to find something that lets me draw on both of those,” Drahozal said.
