Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for March 8, 1908: “The building committee of the Christian Church met yesterday and let the contract for the construction of their new church. Excavation and foundation work already are under way and when completed the church will have cost $33,000 for the building, $4,800 for the lots and with furnishings the final price should be under $40,000. It will be one of the most modern churches in the state and will be one of the largest church buildings in town. : The sheriff has issued a warrant for a local youth who stole a $100 horse and sold it for $7.50 to a man near Eudora. : The detective force in Kansas City has arrested ‘Buddy’ Parker, alias Bud Craig, for the murder of David Fantroy. Details about the death are still being assembled. : W.R. Stubbs is beginning circulation of petitions for the office of governor. The plan is to secure the maximum number of signatures that the law allows, about 16,000, and get them from people in every county of the state.”
