Old Home Town – 40 years ago

Lawrence public school teachers were given a base salary increase of $400 a year as the school board approved a new schedule. The revised slate raised the base figure from $5,100 to $5,500 a year.

The school board voted 5-1 to offer Supt. Carl Knox a one-year contract extension after two split votes on his salary and contract. Knox’s new annual salary was to be $19,425.
