Royals roll past Rockies

? Troy Tulowitzki hit his second home run of spring training Tuesday in the Colorado Rockies’ 11-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals.

Tulowitzki is one of several key players the Rockies have given long-term deals since reaching last year’s World Series. Earlier in the day, outfielder Brad Hawpe and Colorado agreed to a $17,425,000, three-year contract.

“I feel like they’re sending a message to the players that they feel we have something special here,” Tulowitzki said. “We need to send them the same message.”

Tulowitzki hit a two-run shot in the first inning. Alberto Callaspo homered for Kansas City.

Callaspo formerly played for Arizona and was picked the organization’s 2006 minor league player of the year while starring Triple-A Tucson.

“He’s one of the guys who knows how to square it up every now and then,” Royals manager Trey Hillman said.

The versatile Callaspo, hitting .286 this spring after being acquired in a trade with Arizona, could play any one of five positions this year, Hillman said.

Miguel Olivo drove in two runs for the Royals.
