From the Lawrence Daily World for March 3, 1908: "J.V. Zerby, a traveling man from Lawrence, was seriously injured in Ottumwa, Iowa, when he fell on an icy platform while trying to catch a train. He was carrying a heavy bag and that helped prevent his sliding beneath the train. : President Murlin of Baker University has received word that philanthropist Andrew Carnegie has added $12,000 to his library gift to the university."
