Lawrence hosted another group from the Soviet Union. The Soviet women’s national basketball team came here at the invitation of Athletes United for Peace, a Lawrence-based group.

Judy Billings of the Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau said that rain or shine, the Independence Days program for Lawrence would go on as scheduled.
