From the Lawrence Daily World for June 29, 1908: “The school board has accepted five new local teachers and accepted the resignation of several others. A sewing teacher is to be added and sewing and domestic science courses are to be lengthened. : The body of James Karns the laborer who drowned in the Kaw River last Thursday has been found in the willows near the wire-mill. Karns fell from a flatboat while working to remove debris from the Bowersock Dam.”
