Sarah Nieder Miller received a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction, with an emphasis in reading, from the University of Missouri-Columbia during spring ceremonies.
Miller is a graduate of Lawrence High School and Kansas State University. She is a teacher in the Black River, N.Y., public schools.
¢Austen Head, Lawrence, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics with a minor in psychology on May 19 from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif.
He is a graduate of Free State High School and the son of John Head and Lucia Orth, both of Lawrence.
¢Spencer Wilson, Eudora, was named to the dean's list for the spring 2008 semester at Harding University, Searcy, Ark.
To be named to the dean's list, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.65 or higher.
¢Kelly Daniel and Jordan Gribble, both of Basehor, and Rachel Uhlig, Perry, were named to the spring 2008 provost and vice president's list at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.
To be named to the list, a student must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 to 3.99.
¢Krisada Virojanavat, Lawrence, has received a Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium scholarship. Virojanavat will be attending Kansas University. The award of $1,000 was given to 115 students in the United States and Canada.
¢Anthony Trepinski, Lawrence, participated in the American Legion Boys State of Kansas June 1-7 at Kansas State University. During the program, he was a member of the city of McCoy and held the position of Oil and Gas Worker Organization in the government and leadership program.
He will be a senior at Free State High School in the fall.
¢Cade Chaput, Melanie Cropp, Kahlyn Heine, Dylan Holtkamp, and Katherine Melton, all of Lawrence, and Lindsey Himpel, Tonganoxie, received academic scholarships from Washburn University. Cropp also received the Valedictorian Scholarship.
To be eligible, a student must have an ACT score of 21 and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Valedictorian Scholarships are awarded to students ranked No. 1 in their class after the seventh semester.
The students were recognized for their achievements at a banquet in May at the university.
¢Bethany France, Baldwin City, received a Master in Education degree on May 17 from Drury University, Springfield, Mo.
¢Sarah Norris, Basehor, Megan Urban, Eudora, and Jennifer Crawford and Jenna McGovern, both of Lawrence, were named to the dean's list for the 2008 spring semester at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb.
To be named to the dean's list, students must earn a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
¢Jennifer Meitl, Lawrence, received a Master of Science in college student services administration from Oregon State University, Corvallis, Ore. The commencement ceremony was on June 15.
¢Recent graduates Wade Billings, of Lawrence High School, Margaret Banning, Free State High School, and Aaron Karlin, Baldwin High School, have received Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary scholarships.
The awards are given to students pursuing careers in the medical field and are worth $1,000 per year for four years.
¢Rebecca Cain, Lawrence, received a Bachelor of Arts in business administration with a concentration in management from Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa. The commencement ceremonies were on May 18.
¢Cadet Jacob Von Feldt, son of Doug and Alyson Von Feldt, Lawrence, was promoted to the rank of corporal 1st class at Missouri Military Academy's Middle School in Mexico, Mo. He was also placed on the High Honor Roll and awarded the Academic Effort Bar.
In addition, he was awarded the Maroon Bar, Military Bar and Academic Fourragere. He is a member of the Academy's 119th Corps of Cadets.
¢Katie and Steve Shaffer, Allen, Texas, announce the birth of their son, Matthew Roderick Shaffer, born June 9, 2008, at Allen Presbyterian Hospital in Allen, Texas.
Matthew has a sister, Ryann Shaffer, 3.
His maternal grandparents are Rod and Karen Miller, Plano, Texas.
His paternal grandparents are Dick and Harriet Shaffer, Lawrence.

¢William Armstrong, Lawrence, was named to the dean's list for the 2008 spring semester at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus.

¢ Jessica Foulke, Lawrence, graduated with highest honors, summa cum laude, from McPherson College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with an emphasis in political science and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music with a minor in musical theater on May 25, 2008, in Brown Auditorium.
To graduate with highest honors, students must earn a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.

¢Elizabeth Bodle LaPreze received an Associate of Arts degree and an Associate of Science degree from Cottey College, Nevada, Mo. She will continue her education at Drury University in Springfield, Mo., and major in mathematics and physics.
