A Douglas County Sheriff's deputy measures the distance between just north of Lone Star Lake and the site of a motorcycle fatality on County Road 1. Douglas County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe said a man believed to be from the Lawrence area died in the accident.

Harry W. Stone, Jr., 40, of Lawrence, died in a motorcycle crash Friday near Lone Star Lake.

The accident occurred at 6:02 p.m. just north of Lone Star Lake on County Road 1. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe said the accident involved a single motorcycle.

Witnesses told deputies Stone was driving north on County Road 1 when he lost control on a curve in the road just north of the dam. The motorcycle went off the road and the driver suffered fatal injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies blocked about a half mile section of County Road 1 from the north side of the lake to County Road 10 while they worked the accident.
