Home Plate Champs: Lawrence Home Plate U-16 baseball won the Longball Classic in Kansas City. Team members are Scott Brenn, Jack Bushy, Taylor Gentry, Nick Hassig, Austin Holladay, Cody Jones, Tanner Kilmer, Chris Parker, Adam Petz, Ryan Scott, Coulter Vestal, Ben Wyatt, Lyell Brown and Bryan Kindle. Coaches are Wilson Kilmer, Matt Baty and Daren Parker.

¢ Swim Golds: Carol Francis of Lawrence earned six gold medals at the Missouri Senior Olympics last weekend in Columbia, Mo. In age-group competition, Francis won the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle events as well as the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke races.

¢ Thunder Champs: Lawrence Thunder U-12 softball won a tournament last weekend in Gardner. Team members are Meredith Morris, Elizabeth Seimears, Jamie Maddox, Kristen Gile, Hailey Cope, Remington Samuels, Sami Buffalomeat, Olivia Loney, Evan Dye, Madeline Dieker, Kaitlin Dunbar and Morgan Knapp. Coaches are Bret Morris, Robert Knapp, Mike Maddox and Dan Dunbar.

¢ The Big Event: Entry deadline is next Thursday for The Big Event, the 36-hold Lawrence Amateur Golf Assn. open, women’s, senior and super senior championships July 12 at Alvamar and July 13 at Eagle Bend. For information, go to www.lawrencegolf.org.

¢ Hummers Champs: Lawrence U-14 Hummers won a fast-pitch tournament two weekends ago in Paola. Team members are Adrienne Strobel, Miranda Davis, Ellen Kyriakos, Morgan Drinnon, Christy Wagner, Ashley Dibenedetto, Allison Potter, Paige Hanson, Kylie King, Taylor Easum and Megan Eagle.

¢ Shade Hole-in-One: Doug Shade used a 5-iron to ace the 140-yard No. 11 hole last Thursday at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Keith Rasmussen, John Lounsberg and Steve Romines.

¢ Rebels Second: Kansas Rebels U-14 baseball finished second in a tournament in Kansas City. Team members are Blake Bergmann, Anthony Buffalomeat, Sean Cesare, Reece Conklin, David Pierce, C.J. Roush, Montana Samuels, Tyler Self, Cameron Solko, Chandler Thomann, Elliot Vaughn, Jake Vinoverski and Troy Willoughby. Coaches are Randy Samuels, Ray Buffalomeat, Chuck Vinoverski and Scott Thomann.

¢ Roberts Low: Conrad Roberts shot a two-under-par 70 and won Sunday’s Jayhawk Golf Club weekly tournament at Alvamar by a stroke over Mark Terranova. Bob Bezek was third with a 72. In net scoring, Duane Dickson was low with a 62, followed by Pete Whitenight at 66 and Ed Scholtes at 67.

¢ Phoenix-Fyler Third: Lawrence Phenix-Fyler U-18 softball finished third in a NAFA tournament last weekend. Dana Kramer went 6-for-12 with a double and triple. Hannah Somers was 5-for-11 and Michelle Bowman 4-for-9.
