Franklin County inmate dies

June 24, 2008

Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a Franklin County Jail inmate.

About noon Monday, Eddie Brannan, 38, Ottawa, was found unresponsive in his cell. Officers called for assistance and administered aid to Brannan, who was later declared dead.

A statement from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department said an autopsy will be performed by Frontier Forensics in Topeka.

All in-custody deaths are investigated by KBI.

LJW has just gone down hill , cost savings ? Note there are no longer any private car ads in the classified , have you bought a copy of the paper lately ? Its hardly worth the trouble , 8-10 pages , the hawk sheet is almost larger. And the constant lack of information is just beyond understandable when you can go to KC Star or CJ online and get the info.

Sounds like a good way to save money for the county. Someone who does something like he was charged with, is a waste to society.

There are days when the writing in the UDK is better...I think people like to complain. If the paper was great, what would they do all day?

Inmate probably tased himself 48 times and struck himself across the head with a nightstick repeatedly. Either that, or his death was from "hysterical heart failure".

If you want any type of information about an incident you'll have to read one of the other local newspapers. The Lawrence Journal World will not have any information about the incident or they always leave out the critical information and names. Also, they do not print any court news or maybe once a month they may print sometthing on a big case if things are slow. In 46 years I have never seen a paper like the LJW.

Agreed about The Ottawa Herald having better information on this one. They've got a new story on their website now with a lot more details ...

Suprisingly enough, the Ottawa Herald had more information on this. According to them, the inmate committed suicide by hanging himself. The link is as follows:

You know, if the LJW is so bad, just why do you people keep reading it and posting on this site?I am not just-a-whistling dixie here, I would really like to know.

This should be easy since they have an office there at the jail or did have years ago.

Weren't they suppose to release the name of the 28yr old Lawrence man that was arrested after the high speed chase after he was charged yesterday? LJW did not follow up on that as far as I can tell. Has anyone seen it?

Because there is no other local paper other than the UDK."There is The Lawrencian, which I believe has has the highest circulation of any independent newspaper in the state. You know, I don't even want to bother with the "guilty until proven innocent but wait just assuming he's a guilty pedophile is eaiser" crowd today.
