Mallory Ala, Oskaloosa, Kelli Kuhlman, Lecompton, and Anne Hayden, Lawrence, were named members of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at Emporia State University. Their initiations were on May 16 in ESU’s Memorial Union ballroom.

Michael Ornburn, Lawrence, received a Master of Biomedical Sciences on May 23 at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Ill.

He is a 2002 graduate of Lawrence High School and the son of David and Nancy Ornburn, Lawrence.

Ottawa University announces its spring 2008 semester honor rolls. To be named to the dean’s list, students must have 24 or more semester hours and earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

To be named to the dean’s honor roll, students must have 12 or more semester hours and earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Students named to the dean’s list include Shannon Fisher, Lawrence.

Students named to the dean’s honor roll include Lauren Ohnseorge-Fick and Kyle Schreiner, both of Lawrence.

Amanda Sims, a Lawrence High School student, was chosen by American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 14, Lawrence, to attend the 66th annual session of Sunflower Girls State at Kansas University. Sunflower Girls State was sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary from June 1-6.

Amanda is the daughter of Rob and Michelle Sims.

Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo., announces its May 2008 graduates. Commencement exercises were May 10. Clifton Truman Daniel, the oldest grandson of former President Harry S. Truman and director of public relations for Harry S. Truman College, was the keynote speaker at the ceremony.

The Kansas University mathematics department recognized outstanding undergraduate and graduate students with awards and scholarships during its 51st annual honors banquet last month.

Kansas University’s 2008 Duke University Talent Identification Program state recognition ceremony was June 1 at the Lied Center. The TIP program is for academically talented seventh-grade students and selection is based on college entrance exam scores that are in the top 5 percent while the students are in middle school. Each Duke TIP student received a medallion at the ceremony.

Allison Edwards, Lawrence, was named the top president of a student organization during the annual Leaders and Luminaries awards ceremony at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Edwards is the president of the Honors Program Student Council and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a national honor society for arts and sciences students. She also was named to the dean’s list during the fall 2007 semester at Drake University by earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Barton County Community College, Great Bend, announces its spring 2008 semester honor rolls. To be named to the dean’s list, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99.

To be named to the president’s list, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 4.0.

Laura Windheuser graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in social welfare on May 10 from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth.
