Family friend: Girl born to Jamie Lynn Spears

Jackson, Miss. – Jamie Lynn Spears gave birth to a baby girl Thursday morning at a south Mississippi hospital, according to a friend of the Spears family.

The friend, who asked not to be identified because the family had not yet announced the baby’s birth, told The Associated Press that the baby was named Maddie Briann and weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

The 17-year-old Jamie Lynn was the star of Nickelodeon’s “Zoey 101,” a sitcom about prep school friends, and is the younger sister of pop star Britney Spears. The Spears family announced in December that Jamie Lynn was pregnant. The father is Casey Aldridge, a pipe-layer from Liberty, Miss. The couple is not married but announced an engagement several months ago.

Ellen Brannan, spokeswoman for Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, in McComb, would not give out any details. “We understand everybody’s interested, but we don’t give out information on anyone. Everyone’s entitled to their privacy,” she said.

The younger Spears lives near Liberty with Aldridge, 19, and has been seen around the small south Mississippi town often as her pregnancy became more apparent. Her family owns a home across the state line in Kentwood, La.

Amy Winehouse gets further hospital tests

London – A spokesman for Amy Winehouse says the 24-year-old soul diva is having more hospital tests after fainting earlier this week.

Spokesman Chris Goodman says Winehouse had more scans and tests Thursday.

Winehouse collapsed Monday at her north London home after signing autographs for a group of fans. An assistant caught her before she hit the ground.

She is scheduled to sing at a June 27th concert to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday, and is due to take part in the Glastonbury music festival the next day.

Her spokesman says that although Winehouse still plans to perform at both concerts, the decision “will be made entirely on the advice of her doctors and in her best interests.”

Bond producer pays big for kiss from 007 star

London – What’s a kiss from 007 worth?

James Bond film producer Barbara Broccoli has paid $38,000 for a kiss from Daniel Craig, who plays the suave British spy on screen.

Broccoli will also get kisses from Hugh Grant and Robbie Coltrane for her winning bid at the Great British Movie Event benefit for the National Film and Television School.

Bond’s tuxedo from “Casino Royale” sold for $19,000.

The auction, held Tuesday, raised $800,000 for the film school.

Craig paid $36,000 for an uncorrected proof of the first Harry Potter novel, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” published in the U.S. as “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”

Rascal Flatts to join Boston Pops on July 4

Boston – Rascal Flatts will play with the Boston Pops on the banks of the Charles River during a July 4 concert to be broadcast on CBS.

The country music group says it will play some of its hits with the Pops and conductor Keith Lockhart. Rascal Flatts’ hits include “Take Me There,” “What Hurts the Most,” “Bless the Broken Road.”

The concert – which also features traditional patriotic songs and fireworks – will be the Pops’ 35th free outdoor show on Independence Day.

Rapper Young Jeezy charged with DUI

Atlanta – Rapper Young Jeezy was charged with driving under the influence and speeding after he was pulled over on an Atlanta highway early Wednesday.

The multi-platinum-selling artist, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, was driving a Corvette when he was stopped about 2:30 a.m. on Interstate 85, police department spokesman Officer James Polite said.

The arresting officer noticed the vehicle did not have a license plate, but Polite could not say how fast Jenkins was driving.

Jenkins was charged with speeding, driving with no proof of insurance or license plate, having an open container, reckless driving and driving impaired by alcohol or drugs.

He was released from the Atlanta City Detention Center a few hours later on a $4,100 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court July 17.

Poison sues label over royalties

Los Angeles – Members of Poison say their record label has consistently underpaid them royalties throughout their career, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday.

The lawsuit against Capitol Records and EMI Music Marketing claims the companies breached contracts with the band by improperly categorizing certain record sales and miscalculating everything from producer royalties to foreign taxes.

A representative for Capitol and EMI did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment Thursday.

The group claims it tried to audit the band’s records kept by Capitol, but the firm didn’t fully cooperate. The band stated in its lawsuit that it cannot determine how much money it is owed and asked a judge to order Capitol Records to allow a full accounting review of the band’s records.
