The tentative budget figures proposed for local schools in the coming year called for a 6-mill increase over the present total of 35.45 mills.

Al Cerne, assistant superintendent for business and facilities for the local school district, resigned to take an administrative post with the Johnson County school system.

The City Commission ordered a comprehensive study of the Lawrence airport after the recent $100,000 fire. The goal was to determine the best and most economical ways to renovate and improve the facility.

Appointment of a local housing authority to insure “an adequate supply of decent housing for the poor” was recommended to the city commission by the Lawrence League of Women Voters represented by Mrs. Edward Daub.
