From the Lawrence Daily World for June 18, 1908: “The flood water is out of North Lawrence and tomorrow the electric plant here will switch to water wheels for power and permit the fires under their boilers, which have been lighted for at least 10 days, to die out. The Kaw has gone down considerably and the Missouri River remains high but is falling encouragingly.”
