Successful finish

The athletes weren't the only ones who worked hard before and during Sunday's Ironman triathlon.

Congratulations to the organizers of Sunday’s Ironman 70.3 Kansas triathlon that drew more than 1,000 athletes and an estimated 4,000 spectators to the Clinton Lake area.

The triathlon drew crowds of people to downtown Lawrence all weekend for related events and was an economic boon for retail businesses, motels and restaurants. Even though the event was cut short for some by severe weather, many competitors shared positive comments and said they hoped to be back next year.

This is a tribute to the organizers and scores of volunteers who helped the triathlon run smoothly. The community thanks you for all of your hard work.
