Juneteenth event set for Thursday

The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence is conducting its annual Juneteenth celebration Thursday at Broken Arrow Park. Admission is free.

Juneteenth commemorates the abolition of slavery. This year’s celebration, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., will include oral histories about Juneteenth and slavery, activities for children and families and a street dance. Local musicians also will perform.

The Boys and Girls Club traditionally recognizes Juneteenth at its summer program sites, but decided to incorporate families in this year’s celebration.
