From the Lawrence Daily World for June 15, 1908: C.W. Roberts of Lawrence, manager of the Perry Home Telephone Co., fell from his boat and was drowned near the Lecompton bridge yesterday afternoon. He was out looking after the phone wires damaged by the high water when the accident happened. An assistant in the boat tried to save Roberts, age 56, but the current was too strong and Roberts was swept away :"
