Looking for relief from those ever-rising gas prices?

The Lawrence Transit System has the answer, at least for one day. The T is offering free rides on Thursday, the third annual National Dump the Pump Day. Fares will be waived on all fixed routes.

Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, which hopes riders can conserve gasoline and help the environment at the same time. According to APTA, using public transportation instead of a personal vehicle can save more than $6,200 a year.

Why free only on the thursday ? make it free everyday, the ridership woj't be any different. After all who wants to go around the block twice to go north? hello?

Just call it what it is. The Emp-T is using tax payer money to promote its failing and wasteful system.

Is this a day late? Or perhaps it is 6 days early? It's as if they really don't want you to know that it was probably yesterday.

'According to APTA, using public transportation instead of a personal vehicle can save more than $6,200 a year.'I support the T; but you gotta ask how much all these free rides cost us local taxpayers?! When you're struggling to finance your service; is the best PR move to give away free rides? (Which of course utlimately aren't free...just fully covered by taxpayers -- instead of partially by riders.)
