Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for June 12, 1908: “So many teachers are due to attend the NEA convention in Hawaii that military transports may be fitted to take them and bring them back. : The Kaw River had the nerve to break in with flooding to take some of the attention away from university commencement. However, it has proved to be a good time for the university despite the weather conditions. : We owe a debt of gratitude to local officials such as Mayor Barker, Street Commissioner Hosford and City Councilman Hutchings for the way the handled the many emergencies during the Kaw flooding. They could not have performed better.”
