Man gets 87 months for drug trafficking

A Lawrence man on Monday was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for drug trafficking.

John Burke Holt, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to manufacture, distribute or possess with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine. He also pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

In his plea, Holt admitted that in summer 2004 he conspired with a man named Don Marcus Gibler and others to distribute crack in Lawrence. In return for crack, Holt allowed Gibler and others to use his residence at 3700 Hartford to manufacture and distribute crack.

In August 2004, investigators serving a search warrant at Holt’s residence found marijuana, crack and handguns.

Gibler was sentenced in October 2007 to 27 years in prison.

The case was investigated by the Lawrence Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
