Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for June 8, 1908: “The Kaw River continues to rise and hit 14.5 feet at the dam here this afternoon. That will be five feet below the danger line but many are anxious about continuing rains that could cause some serious flooding. The powerhouse wheels were not working as well as usual today but there still seems to be no cause for alarm, according to river experts. : Nine of the 10 cars entered in the automobile endurance run from Kansas City through to Topeka reached here today, two of them right on the dot.”
