Kansas University’s Midwestern Music Camps offer junior and senior high instrumental, vocal and keyboard students a variety of music experiences. The camp features full symphony orchestras, choirs, bands, jazz ensembles and music classes and seeks to provide students arriving from various countries the best musical and social experience available.

This year’s camps include the Junior High Music Camp for grades 6-9, which is today through Friday; Senior High Music Camp, for grades 9-12, from June 15 to June 20; Choral Institute, grades 9-12, from June 24 to June 30; KU Marching Leadership Camp, grades 8-12, from July 6 to July 10; and the KU Jazz Workshop, grades 8-12, from July 6 to July 11. All camps except the Marching Camp take place in Murphy Hall. The KU Marching Leadership Camp will take place at Lawrence High School, 1901 La.

The KU Midwestern Music Camp was created in 1935 by former KU band director Russell L. Wiley. Under Wiley’s direction, the camp became the second-largest and second-oldest music camp in the United States. The camp was often visited by some of the world’s most renowned conductors and artists, such as Andre Previn, Percy Grainger, Sir Vivian Dunn and Carmen Dragon, to name a few.
