The April 1 local-option budget election for the Lawrence school district cost $40,546.

Board members at their Monday meeting are expected to approve paying the bill. Voters narrowly approved a 1 percent increase in local property taxes that gives the school board an extra $679,000 to spend on teacher salaries and other expenses.

Administrators had expected the election to cost about $40,000 because it was Lawrence’s only election that day. Normally, local governments divide up funding for election board workers, ballot printing and other expenses.

The district had budgeted $10,375 to spend on elections for this year, and administrators plan to dip $30,171 into a contingency reserve fund to cover the remaining LOB election cost.
