Poker run set for Saturday morning to benefit local chapter of American Red Cross

The first Poker Run hosted by the Blue Knights Kansas II chapter will rev its engines Saturday to raise money for the Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross.

“Poker runs are pretty common in the motorcycle community,” said Sgt. Dan Ward, who is organizing the fundraiser.

Riders pick up one card at each of the five stops. The ride starts at the Riverfront Harley-Davidson in North Lawrence, goes by Lake Perry, through Ozawkie and Tonganoxie and ends back in North Lawrence at Slow Ride Roadhouse.

“The best hand, the second best hand and the worst hand will all get a percentage of the total contribution,” Ward said.

Sign-up and check-in begins at 9 a.m., and the ride will start at 10 a.m. Each hand of poker has a $20 entry fee. Riders can pre-register by e-mailing ksblueknights@live.com. The first 100 who pre-register get free T-shirts. Motorcyclists also can enter the day of the ride.
