Twice-a-week trash pickups and the purchase of new park land were the main targets for cost-cutting idea people at a sparsely attended town meeting on the city budget. The budget had not been drafted but commissioners said they continually heard pleas for lowering the tax take here.

The Lawrence United Fund board of directors announced a $432,099 goal for the coming fall campaign to help support 22 local agencies. Wallace Galluzzi, chairman for the campaign, said it was a “realistic goal” even though it was a 12 percent increase from the previous year.
