Heavy storms douse Douglas County
A heavy storm producing hail and strong winds June 2 left Douglas County wet and, in some areas, without power.
Douglas County remains in a Flash Flood Warning until 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Traffic on Sixth Street at Colorado Street was being rerouted about 1:05 p.m. Monday because of downed power lines.
Heavy rain from Monday morning storms had led to closure of U.S. Highway 24-40 just north of the Leavenworth County-Douglas County line, according to Leavenworth County officials. That road is now open.
Traffic through the intersection of 23rd Street and Ousdahl Road also was restricted because of high water.
The storm packed a punch across Douglas County, including west of Baldwin, where a trained weather spotter reported 70 mph winds and 1-inch hail at 12:10 p.m.
A total of 1,324 Wester Energy customers were without power about 12:50 p.m. Monday.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority reported two instances of motorists needing help during the storm. One vehicle rolled onto its side about nine miles east of Lawrence. No one was injured. And another vehicle slid into a ditch about three miles east of Lawrence, and emergency workers pulled it out. Again, there were no injuries.

Boston_Corbett, some do and some don't. It all depends on what type of tractor they're driving.

What do you want them to do with it Hawk? There has already been a boat load of money put into storm water remediation in that area and outside of leveling several houses and doing a drainage ditch there is not much else to be done. Besides if you know there is a water problem there and you still go to/through that intersection and have trouble that is your own fault.

i remember when people said the city would never do anything about 23rd and Naismith.
I used to enjoy seeing it fill up with water as high as the windows on my car. People sitting on top of theirs in the middle of 23rd. Waving, chanting for more to try it.
Then look at the major changes that were made.
I believe this came along when they opened up the road for the apartments back there.
Maybe if someone bulldozes Hobby Lobby for a new apartment complex, it will be improved.

23rd and Ousdahl is always a given that it'll flood there and I always avoid that intersection when it rains this hard.
I was surprised how much water was coming down on S. Wakarusa by K-10. I actually had to stop and turn around as it felt like my car was going to be washed away.
