Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for July 30, 1908: “A new $50,000 power and heating plant for the university is now in the process of construction and will be ready by the last of October. Plans also are being laid for the new mining engineering building which is to be built this fall and next spring. : The Santa Fe California Limited that passes through Lawrence derailed about 14 miles southwest of Topeka today. The engineer was killed. : County commissioners have opened the bids for the new jail and all four are under the limit of $19,000.”
