University Club Bridge announces results of its July 19 meeting. Hosts were Lois Liebert, Virginia Williams, Alice Akin and Willie Stoltenberg.
Blue winners were Lois Liebert, first; John Golden, second; Al Smith, third; Dave Gaumer, fourth; and George Bocquin, fifth.
Pink winners were Barbara McCorkle, first; Mary Gaumer, second; Carolyn Jordan, third; Bebe Huxtable, fourth; and Carol Smith, fifth.
¢The Pilot Club met July 14 at Stone Canyon. Four new members were welcomed by the club. They are Paula Keuffel, Val Fittell, Elaine Seeman, and Debra Nunemaker. The club also celebrated its 50th anniversary with a reception July 19 at the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 N. Second St. Several clubs from the Kansas-Missouri districts attended the event.
¢The Wednesday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on July 16 was a North American qualifying game and was directed by Chris Lane. Winners were Durbin and Julia Brooks, first; Jeremy Martin and Craig Huneke, second; Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier, third; Chris Lane and Mona Bell, fourth; Paul Heitzman and David Piro, fifth in A; Lois Clark and Catherine Blumenfeld, second in C; and Carol Ball and Nita Scales, third in C. Other qualifiers included Virginia Seaver and Shirley Reese and Clarice Broz and Marilyn Martin.
¢The Thursday Morning Mentor Club’s game on July 17 utilized an individual movement and was directed by Chris Lane. Winners were Virginia Seaver, Julia Brooks, Pat Lechtenberg, Craig Huneke, Jean Khatib and Lester Dalton.
¢The Friday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on July 18 was a North American qualifying game and was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South winners were Jeane Landry and Harry Shaffer, first; Sally Taylor and Yvonne Hedges, second; Lester Dalton and Mary Fenlon, third; and John Fittell and Kent McCullough, fourth. Other qualifiers included Chuck Hedges and Virginia Eddy and Ann Thompson and Catherine Blumenfeld.
The East-West winners were Florine Creek and Barbara McCorkle, first; Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks, second; Harry Talley and Don Daugherty, third; David Piro and Paul Heitzman, fourth. Other qualifiers were Jay Hildreth and Judy Hildreth and Marilyn Martin and Wanna Roszel.
¢The Sunday Afternoon Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on July 20 utilized an individual movement and was directed by Chris Lane. Winners were Craig Huneke, Hailong Dao, Jean Khatib, Chris Lane and Jean Hutton.
¢The Monday Evening Duplicate Bridge Club’s game on July 21 was directed by Virginia Seaver. The North-South winners were Terry Tolar and Harry Shaffer, first; Bobby Patton and Adelaide Nyquist, second; David Leitch and Steven Brodmerkle, third; and Julia Dalton and Lester Dalton, fourth.
The East-West winners were Jeremy Martin and Lois Clark, first; Barbara Merriam and Dorothy Netson, second; David Piro and Brian Barrett, third in A; Eldon Herd and Emily Foster, fourth in A; and Grant Sutton and Hailong Dao, third in B.
