Chalk up another change of plans to fuel prices.
Darrell Cox was excited at the prospect of seeing his two children on Tuesday. They've been traveling with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps since Memorial Day, and the group was scheduled to make a stop at Lawrence High School for an all-day practice session.
But, because of high gasoline prices, the team will stay another day in Broken Arrow, Okla., where they competed Monday night.
"It costs the Corps about $5,000 every time they fill up, so it's a lot of money," said Cox, a Lawrence resident.
The 150-member corps travels with a cook truck and an equipment truck.
"It's a moving army," said Cox.
The Corps' next stop will be Pittsburg, Kan., for a competition Wednesday night.
And Cox will get to see his children.
"I'm going to go to Pittsburg tomorrow night and watch them down there," he said.
The Colts are based out of Dubuque, Iowa, and will be traveling around the country until Aug. 9 competing against 25 other drum corps formed by Drum Corps International.

that's too bad, the drum and bugle corps always put on a good show. And, it is always a good recruiting tool for the high school marching bands, KU Marching Jayhawks, and music departments in general.

There is NO WAY Darrell & Johannah Cox have kids old enough to be in the Colts!!! I just can't believe it. Amazing. I guess that must make me really old since I used to babysit them! Congrats and enjoy seeing them!CB

The age to be part of the corps ranges from 14 to 21 so it really isn't that old if you think about it. You age out when you turn 21. So sad that they won't be in town. I was looking forward to seeing how they had progressed since last I saw them this season. 'Night and Day' looks very competitive.
