Think you could be the next David Cook, Carrie Underwood or – gasp – Sanjaya Malakar? The Journal-World is hoping to find that person in the Lawrence area. “American Idol” auditions take place Aug. 8 at Kansas City’s Kemper Arena. If you are 16-28 years old, post a video audition on the J-W’s YouTube site by Aug. 4. Nothing fancy, just an a cappella singing audition like the kind used to wow Simon and/or Paula and Randy. We’ll determine the contestant with the best chance of cruising through the audition process and accompany you during the ordeal. Then we’ll write a feature story about your experience, whether it’s a soaring victory or agonizing defeat.
