Old Home Town – 40 years ago

Bid openings were at hand for the $300,000 Lawrence municipal swimming pool in Central Park. It would be the first truly public pool in city history.

Miss Lawrence-KU for 1968, Beverly Joan Gibbs, had gone to Pratt to compete in the Miss Kansas contest. She was a Kansas University senior from Kansas City.

Lawrence’s 1968-69 United Fund goal was set at $139,956, a 29 percent increase over the $108,000 goal of the preceding year. The past quota had been exceeded by $18,000. Stephen Hill was the UF president.
