Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for July 17, 1908: “One of our city ordinances has been forgotten: begging on the street is illegal. No attention is paid the ordinance and beggars enjoy life, working the streets from one end to the other, soliciting alms. There is no enforcement and they are unrestricted at this point. : Ticket-holders so far seem quite pleased by the local Chautauqua in progress in South Park. Many important messages seem to be in the process of being delivered.
