Eudora school under construction

School construction is creating a dialogue in the Eudora school district this summer.

Residents and district officials are now able to see the results of a $45 million bond issue, passed back in 2007, come to fruition. Nearly half of the funds from the bonds are being spent on the construction of the town’s new elementary school building.

While the elementary school will be finished in fall 2009, interim Superintendent Don Grosdidier said, there were also three other large projects in the works.

“The next project that will get started is the Eudora Middle School addition. That will be essentially a sixth-grade wing that will be added onto that building,” Grosdidier said. “Additional projects which are part of the bond issue as well are an addition to the high school, which also includes an auditorium and that we will begin this month. The last phase of the project is a new district stadium.”

These projects are all adding up to districtwide improvements that are sure to affect every student in Eudora.

“It’s not just a small segment of the population, but our entire student population is impacted one way or another by all of the projects,” Grosdidier said.

The Eudora school district also has a multimillion dollar federal grant waiting in the wings, as the next phase of the district wide improvements will take place within the walls of the Eudora school buildings.
