Aquahawk meet on tap today
It’s crunch time for the Lawrence Aquahawks.
With the summer swimming championships just a few weeks away, those Aquahawks yet to qualify have one of their last chances this weekend. Fortunately for them, the chance comes at their home pool.
Over the next four days, the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center will be the site of the Aquahawks’ Wave the Wheat Meet.
“It’s really the last meet to qualify for the championship season,” Lawrence Aquahawks coach Mike Soderling said. “For the Aquahawks, regionals starts the following week, so this is our last chance to get in some really good swimming before regionals and a chance for some of the younger kids to make their qualifying time for the summer championship meet.”
The meet, with categories for five age groups from 8-and-under to 15-and-over, starts at 4 p.m. today with the 1,500 freestyle.
“This is our biggest swim meet of the year, that we host,” Soderling said.
