Milwaukee – CC Sabathia was a little wild in his debut with Milwaukee, but still delivered as advertised in a victory over Colorado. Sabathia (1-0) gave up two earned runs and five hits over six innings in his first outing since being traded by Cleveland on Monday.
Braves 9, Dodgers 3
Los Angeles – Jair Jurrjens pitched six solid innings, batterymate Brian McCann homered twice, and Yunel Escobar hit a three-run double.
Mets 7, Giants 0
New York – Mike Pelfrey outpitched All-Star Tim Lincecum to win his fifth straight start, and Carlos Beltran drove in four runs. Beltran hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and Carlos Delgado also connected off Lincecum (10-2) to help the Mets win their fourth in a row.
Cubs 7, Reds 3
Chicago – Ryan Dempster became the first Cubs pitcher in 31 years to start a season 10-0 at home, and Mike Fontenot and Geovany Soto homered. All-Star Dempster (10-3) is the first Cubs’ pitcher to win his first 10 decisions at home since Rick Reuschel in 1977. He allowed two hits and a run in seven innings, while throwing 103 pitches.
Diamondbacks 2, Nationals 0
Washington – Brandon Webb earned his major-league-leading 13th win, pitching six scoreless innings in Arizona’s victory over Washington.
Padres 10, Marlins 1
San Diego – Rookie Chase Headley, playing in his 20th big-league game this season, had his best performance yet with three hits and four RBIs, including a three-run double. Scott Hairston had a two-run homer among his three hits, and Randy Wolf snapped a four-game losing streak, combining with two relievers on a six-hitter.
Cardinals 2, Phillies 0
Philadelphia – Joel Pineiro and three relievers combined on a six-hitter, and Rick Ankiel and Ryan Ludwick hit solo homers to lead St. Louis past Philadelphia. Pineiro (3-4) allowed five hits and walked three in 61â3 innings for his first win since April 29.
Pirates 4, Astros 3
Pittsburgh – Nate McLouth’s two-run single in the eighth capped a three-run rally, and Pittsburgh sent Houston to its seventh loss in eight games.
