Calling public opinion about Lawrence's proposed downtown shopping complex overwhelmingly negative, Mayor David Longhurst tried unsuccessfully to stop the project. The other city commissioners defeated his motion not to pursue the project with developer Sizeler Realty, of New Orleans. The vote was 3-2 with commissioner Mike Amyx siding with Longhurst.

Does this refer to the River Front Mall? If so, it turns out the overwhelmingly negative opinion of the community was right on target.I wonder which commissioners overrode Amyx and Longhurst to approve the project.

Here is the link to the city page of past mayors. In '83 Marci Francisco exited as mayor and passed to David Longhurst. The photos show four of the commissioners, Franciso, Longhurst, Angino, and Amyx. I can not remember who the 5th member was. http://www.lawrenceks.org/city_commission/past_mayors/page4.shtml
