Mistaken drug delivery leads to arrest
July 6, 2008

Baltimore FedEx prides itself on reliability. But a mistaken delivery tipped off police to a 200-pound shipment of marijuana that someone tried to send from Pembroke Pines, Florida to Baltimore via the shipping company.
Police tell The (Baltimore) Sun they learned about the shipment when it was delivered Tuesday to the wrong resident.
Authorities posed as FedEx employees and arrested the shipment's intended recipient, 30-year-old Richard Gwatidzo.
Officials say he was charged Thursday with possession of a large quantity of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute along with other drug related charges.
Police say they also seized eight other FedEx boxes with nearly 400 pounds of the drug.
Authorities are trying to determine the sender's identity.

“Officials say he was charged Thursday with possession of a large quantity of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute along with other drug related charges.”Dangerous? Tobaco killed 435,000 Deaths (18.1% of the deaths in 2000)Alcohol killed 85,000 Deaths (3.5% of the deaths in 2000)The above killed a total of just over 1/2 a million people !Marijuana 0Sources are cited below the paragraphs in the following linkhttp://www.drugwarfacts.org/causes.htmAn exhaustive search of the literature finds no credible reports of deaths induced by marijuana. The US Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) records instances of drug mentions in medical examiners' reports, and though marijuana is mentioned, it is usually in combination with alcohol or other drugs. Marijuana alone has not been shown to cause an overdose death.

madmike (Anonymous) says:400 pounds of weed will be federal weight. Looking at about 10 years I would guess.=========================Since the shipment was interstate, wouldn't that automatically make it federal?

Regardless of interstate trafficking or not the sheer quantity would dictate a federal prosecution. The Federal government overrides any and all state drug law policies. This is a perfect example of how the Government oversteps it's responsibility to the people. If your state wishes to legalize medical or recreational use of Marijuana it's laws are completely disregarded and prosecution by the Federal government is possible.

It's interesting how some people believe that no deaths have been caused by marijuana. I'm sure that driving high isn't dangerous at all.

“I imagine lung cancer is a very real risk. At least cigarettes have a filter. And before anyone brings out the “but it's all natural” line, smoke inhalation is bad for you, no matter the source.” jimboIf it were legal and the prices could drop to buy in bulk you can make a variety of treats that you can cook with marijuana to avoid the assult on the lungs. Eating marijuana brownie tastes great and the high is better. It's a win win! No smoke. Great body high. And as with all recreational substance use don't drive under the influence. People that smoke a pack of cigaretts a day are far more likely to die of the effects of cigaretts as opposed to the daily marijuana smoker. I don't know what your experience with marijuana has been but there are VERY few people that smoke 20 joints a day. After you smoke so much you really can't get any higher. The quality of marijuana today is much higher than in years past. High quality marijuana requires less consumption therefore less smoking.

“It's interesting how some people believe that no deaths have been caused by marijuana. I'm sure that driving high isn't dangerous at all.”-ConfrontationThe automobile fatalities that involve marijuana overwhelmingly include other substances as well. Most notably alcohol…the true gateway drug. That aside, of course driving high is dangerous! The key here is to evaluate risk. Alcohol and cigaretts are far more dangerous than marijuana, it's a proven fact. As with anything you do moderation is paramount. Our society accepts the risks for cigaretts & alcohol yet denies us the freedom to enjoy marijuana despite it's minimal health risks.

JCJayhawk, Is it not true that smoking one joint is equal to smoking 20 filtered cigarettes, because of the tar?

There is no exact equivalency between tobacco and marijuana smoking, because they affect different parts of the respiratory tract differently: whereas tobacco tends to penetrate to the smaller, peripheral passageways of the lungs, pot tends to concentrate on the larger, central passageways. One consequence of this is that pot, unlike tobacco, does not appear to cause emphysema. As studies have shown there are many variables that make it difficult to make any equation between the two. One such variable is that joint's range in size and weight. Again potency plays a big part when you are talking about how much is smoked. One bud the size of your thumbnail can be as, if not more, potent than one very large joint with commercial grade marijuana. That's what the kids call KB. One toke and thats all you need. (This depends of course on the individual) One “bowl” certianly does not equal a whole pack of cigaretts. But for those that cook up their stash in brownies or other tasty treats they completely avoid the inhailation of smoke. How's that for a healthy solution?Go to McDonald's or down to the liquor stoe and you will find plenty of people out there that are knocking on death's door. We have a major obesity crisis and refuse to acknowledge it's dangers here in our country. The dangers of alcohol & cigz don't even come close to recreational use of Marijuana……. Some guy in his garage puffing on a pipe or friends eating a bunch of brownies should be the least of your or the Federal government's worries.

Gotta love people who open other people's deliveries, must think its christmas when you don't order something and a package comes to your home with someone elses name and address. Willing to bet had there been something inside it they would have liked, they would have kept it.

It's called tolerance - after you smoke so much, regularly, you need to keep smoking that much and more just to get high, not to get higher.
