Rebels State Champs: Lawrence Rebels U-11 won the USSSA state baseball title. Team members are Marcelino Cortez, Weston Hack, Casey Hearnen, Jake Hensley, Cooper Karlin, Andrew Keating, Nolan Prochaska, Jon Saathoff, Michael Sinks, Joel Spain and Lucas Werner. Coaches are Pat Karlin, Mike Hensley and Joe Keating.

¢ Festival-Bound: Joseph Springer of Lawrence will compete for Team Oklahoma in basketball at the International Sports Festival July 21-27 in Columbus, Ohio. Springer, who will be a sophomore at Lawrence High, is a member of the Otoe-Iowa-Pawnee tribes of Oklahoma.

¢ Wachter Hole-in-One: John Wachter used a pitching wedge to ace the 135-yard No. 2 hole Saturday at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Harold Ogden, Jerry Waugh and Jim Clark.

¢ Eudora Run: The Horsethief 5K Run and Mile Fun Run, a fundraiser for Eudora High cross country, will be July 12 at the Eudora Middle School. Entry forms are available at Gary Gribble’s in downtown Lawrence, or go to eudoracrosscountry.com.

¢ Cohen Titlist: Jon Cohen of Lawrence fired a 76 to win the ages 14-15 division of the northeast sectional Kansas Junior Golf Association qualifier last week at Alvamar. In the ages 16-17 division, Mason Dick of Baldwin shot 74 and tied for first, while Spence Scott of Lawrence carded an 80 and tied for fifth.

¢ The Big Event: Entry deadline is today for The Big Event, the 36-hole Lawrence Amateur Golf Assn. open, women’s, senior and super senior championships July 12 at Alvamar and July 13 at Eagle Bend. For information, go to www.lawrencegolf.org.

¢ Pattie Hole-in-One: Bob Pattie used a 7-iron to ace the 127-yard No. 17 hole Wednesday at Eagle Bend. Witnesses were Stan Ring and Mary Ann Ring.

¢ Runner’s Clinic: A free runner’s clinic featuring video analysis is scheduled at 9 a.m. July 19 at Therapy Works, 1311 Wakarusa Dr. A representative of Francis Sports will offer shoe-fitting advice. For information, call 749-1300.

¢ Taylor Hole-in-One: Roy Taylor used a 9-wood to ace the 118-yard No. 6 hole Wednesday at the Orchards. Jack Leatherman was the witness.

¢ Waltz Winners: Mike Beaton, Ed Scholtes, Jack Schwartz and Pete Whitenight combined to record a net total of 129 and won Sunday’s Jayhawk Golf Club Three-Ball Waltz at Alvamar. In second place, six strokes back, were Mike Hertling, Kent Hodgson, Ted Johnson and Drew Walters. Third place at 136 went to Duane Dickson, Bob Kocour, Bud Stagg and Tom Taylor.
