Park trashed

To the editor:

As I entered Clinton Park on Sunday morning, one week after the Wakarusa Music Festival, and drove to the familiar picnic area where I would park and walk, I had a nasty shock. I looked in dismay at ruined, rutted fields, huge mounds of rotting garbage piled up almost everywhere. The bathrooms were damaged and unusable. Partially dismantled fencing was scattered through the former meadow areas.

Although there were a few directionless-appearing young men sitting around surrounded by maintenance vehicles, the only activity was one fellow racing his machine back and forth over the already ravaged meadow. As I walked on to the first campground, the roadside was heavily littered and, into the campground, the off-road areas were bare and scarred with tire tracks.

Who is responsible for cleaning up this mess? And as a former (in principle) supporter of the Wakarusa Festival, from what I have seen, I am against this misuse of our lovely park. They trashed it.
