Veritas sweeps Midland Adventist

The Veritas Christian girls basketball team improved to 11-4 on Saturday night after a 44-29 victory over Midland Adventist.

Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said his team played outstanding defense throughout the contest and reaped the benefits in the fourth quarter, picking up steal after steal which led to easy buckets on the offensive end.

“I thought our defensive intensity really wore them down late in the game, and our guards really handled their pressure well,” Shelton said.

Kristie Tiegreen led Veritas with 22 points, 19 rebounds and seven steals. Meaghan Holmes added seven points, five rebounds and three blocks.

In the boys game, Veritas also won, defeating Midland, 48-39.

Taylor Zook led the Eagles with 20 points, and Michael Kay added 18. Veritas built a 15-point lead after three quarters and cruised to victory.

“Taylor Zook played great for us,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “He shot the ball with confidence and really helped us spread out the defense.”

The victory improved the Eagles to 7-8 on the season.

Next up for both teams is a home date with Lebo High on Tuesday.
