Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 25, 1908: ” The local ministerial alliance says it will not be in favor of a summer Chautauqua program here if the program runs on a Sunday and there is a charge for admission on that day. It appears that change can be made if planners decided to go ahead with such a program. : Today is promotion day in the city schools. This afternoon, all the departments in the city are closing up on the last steps in the term’s work and pupils will move on to their new classes, one step higher. : The Watkins National Bank has a new burglar alarm attached to its safe, the device being controlled by electricity.”
