Magazine ranks city district in top 10

Lawrence has made it back onto a familiar list that ranks metro-area public school districts.

In Expansion Management magazine’s rankings for metro areas with population under 500,000, Lawrence was ranked No. 8. The district has remained in the top 10 on the list the last four years.

Overall, the rankings examined 363 metropolitan areas and their school districts and divided them into three groups of large-, medium- and small-sized metropolitan areas.

In Lawrence’s category, the small-sized one, State College, Pa., topped that list.

The magazine is circulated among corporate development representatives and private site selectors. Lavern Squier, Lawrence Chamber of Commerce CEO and president, was quoted in the magazine article about the partnership between local businesses and schools, known as LEAP, or Lawrence Education Achievement Partners.
